I know many of my readers won&amp;rsquo;t believe it, but my friend tells me that he actually gets excited about numbers, computing them and looking at them for eight to ten hours a day. He claims he doesn&amp;rsquo;t get bored doing this. Furthermore, he works with numbers not only all day long but almost every day of the year and has been doing so for over 20+ years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;My response to my friend is, &amp;ldquo;Good for you.&amp;rdquo; But for most of us, number crunching isn&amp;rsquo;t the most exciting thing that we do. Moreover, some of us can almost dread it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;I came across something recently that has changed my mind, at least a bit about numbers and number crunching. In fact, you need to do this simple test, just as I did a few minutes ago. Take it to find out your &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://bankrate.com/brm/fico/calc.asp?lpid=BKRATE29" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;font color="#0000ff"&gt;FICO Score&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; (Estimated Score). If you are truthful with your answers, you will know what your estimated score is to within just a few points of your score as the major credit companies report it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;Remember that I said I just took the test? Well, I was honest and it was just a couple of points off. By the way, this kind of number crunching is almost fun. Really, I&amp;rsquo;m not lying!&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;One more thing, the number you finally arrive at as a result of taking this brief quiz, will tell your loan officer if/when you are ready to purchase your next house. Sound important? As a Realtor and a Veteran, I know that for years Veterans were told a VA Loan was not the best deal out there and as a result many of our Military and Veterans used other means to finance their mortgage. In other words, if there are four other houses on the same street for sale, it is not uncommon to want to have the best prepared and priced house. If you feel the closing agent is annoyed or frustrated, ask for someone else to do the closing. Here is the truth though. Late fall and the winter season is just around the corner. In fact, Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. Most people agree that in the more northern parts of these United States, selling a house in the middle of the winter can be a bit more challenging. The contractor worked for several weeks always making a minimum amount of noise, picking up after him self, and seemingly using the best in materials. When he was finished, the job looked perfect. The air conditioning functioned well; the drywall and paint that had been applied looked wonderful; there were plenty of electrical sockets to plug in to. Carpeting, tile, bedroom and bathroom seemed flawless. In fact, the couple lived there another year, found another home, purchased it and moved in. Then they put there home up for sale. It all happened precisely in the order just stated.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;The housing market had been moving very slowly, so they waited for an offer - one month, two, three, and four passed by and no one had even walked thru. Finally during the fifth month of their listing they had a walk thru and shortly after, an offer for only $5,000 less than they were asking with NO additional money to be given the buyers out of the seller&amp;rsquo;s pockets. Knowing they were in the midst of a major recession and fortunate to even have an offer, the sellers were thrilled and celebrated with dinner out that night after they made the offer a Contract.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;On day ten of the Home Inspection contingency, the buyer&amp;rsquo;s inspector came out to the house. Everything passed with flying colors except, you got it, the basement. It wasn&amp;rsquo;t the quality of work, it was that the contractor hadn&amp;rsquo;t been licensed that they had employed for their lower level (although the couple thought he was) and as a result hadn&amp;rsquo;t acquired ONE permit!!! He hadn&amp;rsquo;t gotten a plumbing permit, electrical, air conditioning or any other kind of permit. The buyer had wanted to close in 21 days but it took 40 days and a lot of money to undo what the contractor had done and acquire the needed county and city permits. The young couple nearly lost the deal. In reality, they were fortunate that it closed at all.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;What do we learn from the above story as home owners?
