Centreville, VA

An unincorporated community, Centreville, Virginia, has recently been re-discovered and is close to the high-tech employment centers of western Fairfax County.  Located just miles from the Nation’s Capital and approximately 8 miles from Dulles International Airport, Centreville has become one of the most popular residential areas in Northern Virginia.

Centreville Homes for Sale

Centreville is a picturesque community with a highly desirable quality of life.  In more recent times, and due in part to the influx of technology companies to the area, Centreville has become a more upscale suburb of Washington DC with strip malls, movie theaters and large housing developments.  Centreville homes for sale offer a wide array of home types including condominiums, town homes, and single family homes in a broad range of prices for all residential properties.  Centreville also has easy access to major arteries, and commuter services.

Historical Centreville

Centreville was chartered in 1792 and is one of the oldest communities in Fairfax County.  Though rich in Civil War history, Centreville has struggled to hold its identity against the backdrop of hustle and bustle of Washington DC just twenty miles away.  However, its position on major roads which lead westward towards the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley has served to preserve its historic tavern and general store. Other buildings remaining in the Centreville Historic District include the Mount Gilead House, the Old Stone Church, St. John's Church and cemetery. The area around the old town also includes the Sully and Walney Plantations and the Ox Hill Battlefield sites.

Education and Community

Centreville is supported by two public high schools, two public middle schools and nine public elementary schools.  These Centreville schools are managed by the Fairfax County School Board with a 2008 annual budget of $2.2 billion.  Summer programs are available for students who will complete grades K-11 during the school year. Summer programs include opportunities for students to strengthen skills and knowledge, enrichment opportunities, extended day programs, camps, and online courses.  Fairfax County Public Schools holds the distinction of being the thirteenth largest school system in the nation.

Centreville Community Foundation is a non-profit (501c3) organization with an all-volunteer staff providing the means for all of the greater Centreville community to contribute to the growth of Centreville.  CCF proudly supports local non-profits, especially those with programs in the areas of Art, Youth, Education, Health, Economic Development and Community Improvement .  Grants fund scholarships in local high schools each year for outstanding Centreville high school seniors who have demonstrated commitment and service to their communities.
